    Legal Assistant, City of Colonial Heights

    Hiring Range: $34,775 - $57,380
    Performs professional, technical and administrative assistance to City Attorney with minimal supervision.  Duties include: conducting legal research; drafting ordinances, resolutions, memoranda, correspondence and other legal instruments; developing, maintaining, and updating records and files; and maintaining liaison with other departments and representing the office at various meeting and training sessions.  The selected candidate will also serve as Deputy City Clerk.

    Requires a high school diploma with at least five years of related experience; certification or degree as a paralegal or legal assistant and government experience preferred.  Must have strong knowledge of legal terminology and principles; excellent customer service skills, professionalism, verbal and written communication skills, exceptional organizational skills and be highly professional.  Proficient computer skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook required.

    _ Senior Deputy Clerk, Albemarle County

    Hiring Range: $32,042 - $38,451 + Benefits
    The Senior Deputy Clerk performs a broad range of services to meet legal requirements and support the efficient and effective operation of the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors. Assists in recording and maintaining all official records of the Board of Supervisors as part of the legally prescribed duties of the Clerk to the Board of Supervisors. Work requires familiarity with and knowledge of the functions and organizations of County government. Position works as part of a team to support the Board of Supervisors Office and the County Executive’s Office when necessary. Position will be responsible for specific program assignments and must handle a variety of assignments with considerable latitude for independent judgment.
    QUALIFICATIONS:  Must have excellent computer skills, as well as extensive knowledge of software programs with proficiency in various forms of technology, electronic forms of media, website technology, office procedures and equipment. Ability to work in a supporting role as a team member.  Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate’s degree in business, public administration or administrative support technology, as well as a minimum of three years experience in administrative work. Requires possession of, or the ability to obtain a Certified Municipal Clerk certification (CMC) within five years of employment.     Deputy Clerk, Gloucester County

    Under limited supervision, acts as Deputy Clerk to the Board of Supervisors under the traditional form of government as specified by Section 15.2 1538, Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended.  Work involves the performance of those duties as outlined in Virginia Code Section 15.2-1538 and/or as authorized by the Clerk of the Board (County Administrator) to include, but not limited to:  Attendance at all Board of Supervisors meetings and work sessions which are typically held during evening and night hours; the documentation of and recordation of actions taken by the Governing Body in accordance with Virginia Code Section 15.2 -1538; follow-up and dissemination of specific Board actions and directives to appropriate officials.  Employee acts as Notary Public and witnesses and attests to authenticity of legal agreements and documents. 

    Minimum Training & Experience:Graduation from a two-year college or vocational/technical school with major course work in public administration or administrative support technology, and 3 to 5 years progressively responsible experience in complex administrative work, preferably in a government setting; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Excellent computer skills required.  Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) designation required or ability to obtain within 5 years of employment.

    Special Requirements: Employee must possess a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia and maintain an acceptable driving record. Must be commissioned as a Notary Public for the Commonwealth of Virginia, or obtain commission within 90 days of employment.       Town Clerk, Town of Colonial Beach

    Salary: DOQ/DOE (+) benefits.
    Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Town Hall and coordinates other activities of the Town under the direction of the Town Manager. Prepares materials for Town Council meetings, maintains and preserves all permanent Council and other Town records. Posts necessary information to the Town’s website and other Town-owned or controlled Internet sites.  Prepares, coordinates and publishes multi-media promotional marketing pieces, including press releases, designed to maintain open communication between Town Government, Town Administration and Town citizens and stakeholders. Generates correspondence as requested by the Town Council and Town Manager utilizing knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Requires relevant bachelor’s degree from accredited college or equivalent applicable work experience.  Must have achieved municipal clerk certification or be able to work towards certification in an expeditious manner.  Local government experience would be a plus.
