2012 Clerk of the Year - Patricia H. Keatts, MMC, Town of Rocky Mount
On Thursday, April 26th, Clerk of the Year Chairperson Debbie Hanbury presented Patricia Keatts with the VMCA 2012 Clerk of the Year Award during the Annual Banquet at the Renaissance Portsmouth Hotel and Waterfront Conference Center, hosted by Portsmouth City Clerk Debra White and her staff.
Mrs. Keatts was among several clerks that had been nominated by their peers. The Committee reviewed each nomination and considered each detail submitted. Mrs. Keatts’ Town Manager, C. James Ervin, gladly accepted the invitation to attend the Banquet and offered highlights of Mrs. Keatts’ four core areas: Leadership, Mentorship, Commitment to the Community and Creativity. She has been described as the “glue” that holds the Town staff together by her peers. She held the positions of Clerk of Council, Clerk of the Planning Commission, Administrative Assistant to the Planning Department and Executive Assistant to the Town Manager, wearing all these hats at one time with a “can do” attitude and played the role as “behind-the-scene coach” for the organization during a major transformation.
Mrs. Keatts has served as the VMCA President for Region IV and obtained her MMC designation in 2009.
She is involved in community activities including the Franklin County Family Resource Center, Court Appointed Special Advocate for Children, Franklin County Community Chorus and the United Way of Franklin County as well as being a speaker throughout her community on the benefits of the early detection of breast cancer.
