WHEREAS, almost 64 million people volunteer their time and talents nationally each year to the cause of their choice; and

WHEREAS, the national theme for volunteerism in 2005 is “Inspire by Example” and reflects the power that volunteers have to inspire others to become part of a volunteer program; and

WHEREAS, the City of Colonial Heights accomplishes so much more for their citizens because of the large number of volunteers who truly care about their neighbors and their city; and

WHEREAS, volunteers are one of America’s greatest assets in that they are dedicated to helping others and unselfishly give their personal time to make a difference.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, J. Chris Kollman, III, Mayor, on behalf of the Colonial Heights City Council, do hereby designate April 17-23, 2005 as VOLUNTEER WEEK in the City of Colonial Heights and encourage all of our citizens to thank a volunteer and consider giving back to their community by joining those who choose to volunteer for the benefit of others and especially recognize members of the Mayor’s Beautification Committee, Police Sentinel Program, Auxiliary Police, Colonial Heights Police Alumni Association, Volunteer Fire and EMS Department, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), members of the Boulevard Revitalization Steering Committee and the Sign Task Force.
