    Employees with Weapons 12/07/2011

_ I am updating our Personnel Policy. Does anyone have a Workplace Violence policy that addresses employees carrying weapons in the workplace or storing weapons on the premises (including in vehicles parked at work)? Thanks!

    Celeste Heath, CMC

    Town Clerk

    Town of Berryville, Virginia

We have in our Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual a reference to unauthorized possession of firearms on County property. It is a section along with use of drugs/alcohol, gambling, stealing, and other activities that interfere with County operations.

    Category 3 Conduct
Category 3 Conduct includes inappropriate conduct unacceptable to the proper operation of the County. Category 3 offenses include, but are not limited to:
    [...]
    I. Unauthorized possession of firearms or other weapons on County property or during working hours.
    [...]
The appropriate disciplinary measure for any Category 3 Conduct is discharge.

    Weapons Banned

The Town of Appomattox will not tolerate employee’s possession of any weapons, including weapons transported in employee’s vehicles, both inside the workplace and in the parking areas, unless the possession of a weapon is part of their job description. In addition, when working outside the Town of Appomattox’s premises, in their capacity as a Town employee, employees are prohibited from carrying or transporting weapons.

Weapons including guns, knives, explosives, or other items used to threaten harm to another person. Appropriate disciplinary action, up to and including termination, will be taken against any employee who is in violation of this policy.
